The Pikes Peak Edition (PPE) of the Escudo is specially tuned with over 1000 bhp, four wheel drive, and sporting huge aerodynamic aids. It was entered by Suzuki in a number of Japanese events in the late-1990s, where it beat most of the competition. The PPE is also one of the most coveted cars in Gran Turismo 2, 3, and 4 for the Sony PS One and PlayStation 2, primarily because it renders most races trivial. Handling is a bit of an issue, with most of the power in the higher RPMs, which can make it sluggish around corners (on street courses, although on rally courses it easily slides through dirt-covered turns), but on a track with a lot of straightaways, the Escudo performs very well.
The car regularly takes part in the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb, driven by Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima and is identifiable by its large rear wing and red paintjob.
